INTRODUCTION TO SCRAPBOOKING

The art of scrapbook making has now become one of the most popular hobbies today not just in the United States but all over the world thanks to the proliferation of shows focusing on arts and crafts that have not just promoted the beauty of scrapbooks but more importantly, how extremely easy creating a beautifully crafted scrapbook can be regardless on the artistic ability of the person.

Another reason for the growing popularity of scrapbook making is the availability of a wide range of products and materials that can be used to create your very own unique, professional-looking scrapbook in local arts and crafts stores within the community and even on the Internet.  These range from the basic necessities such as stickers and scrapbook paper to the equipment used by the more advanced such as embossing and engraving tools.

However, the easy availability of these materials and equipment have caused this to become an extremely expensive hobby to get into because unlike other hobbies such as playing a particular sport, many scrapbook makers tend to keep on buying materials and tools on a continuous basis that some people who are not into the hobby may actually see it as an addiction, thus defeating the complete purpose behind scrapbook making which utilizes scrap materials for decorating the pages of the scrapbook.

If you would like to get into the hobby of scrapbook making, here are a few materials that you can use to be able to create a beautiful crafted scrapbook without having to spend a fortune to do this:

Magazines and Newspapers

Preserving Newspaper Clippings For Scrapbooking

Do not throw away yesterday’s newspaper or bridal magazines you bought prior to your wedding day.  Instead, cut pictures and use them as a border for your photographs and to decorate the pages of your scrapbook. You can also cut out words from these magazines and news paper for captions and text for the pages of your scrapbook.  This would save you the money that you would have otherwise used to buy stickers from your local arts and craft stores while still getting the same effect.

If you have already thrown all of your newspapers and magazines away and you have run out of stickers, buying one fully colored magazine would still be a whole cheaper than just simply going out and buying more stickers because for the same price you would be able to have about 100 or so pages of usable materials that you can use for your scrapbook materials as compared to 20 or so leaves of stickers.  This would come in extremely handy especially if your entire scrapbook is going to be centering around a particular event such as your wedding day.

GREETING CARDS, GIFT WRAPPERS AND STATIONERIES

Greeting cards that have been sent to you and your family by relatives from across the country and gift wrappers can also be used to decorate your scrapbook pages.  Cut out stamps from the envelopes and include them in pages of your scrapbook that show your travels.  Postcards from your friends from all over the world can also be used for the same purpose.

Wrappers with recurring designs, particularly those with the words “Happy Birthday” or “Congratulations” can be cut out individually for you to repeatedly use to decorate pages showing special occasions.  Cut out the design of the greeting card careful not to destroy the white part.  The design can be used to decorate pages of the scrapbook paper while the card itself can serve as a border for the photographs.
